Biografía de este/a artista
The Presidents of the United States of America was a post-grunge power-pop trio whose punky sound and oddball humor brought them success in the mid-’90s.
∙ Formed in 1990 by childhood friends Chris Ballew and Dave Dederer, the Seattle band became locally popular on the strength of their live shows and an early demo tape.
∙ The band’s self-titled 1995 debut album—featuring the chart-topping Modern Rock single “Lump”—reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and went triple-Platinum.
∙ The hit single “Peaches” received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal in 1996.
∙ Their cover of Ian Hunter’s “Cleveland Rocks” was used as the opening song for The Drew Carey Show from 1997 to 2004.
∙ As Caspar Babypants, Ballew has released albums for kids since 2002—and his 18th LP, Flying High!, received a 2019 Grammy nomination for Best Children’s Music Album.
∙ In 2008, their friend “Weird Al” Yankovic—who spoofed their hit “Lump” with the 1996 single “Gump”—directed the video for their track “Mixed up S.O.B.”
