Brika's sparse, intimate take on a soulful, off-center adult pop was carefully crafted with Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello before she emerged with her debut LP, Voice Memos, in late 2014. The album contained the viral songs "Expectations" and "Just Wanna Be Single."
Born and raised in Miami, Briana Alexa Martinez started singing in early childhood. She eventually taught herself piano and began writing songs. Years later, she met Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello, leading to a three-year collaborative effort on her first album, Voice Memos. It was released by Copello's label Art House Records in late 2014. The single "Expectations" went viral, accumulating millions of streams, a feat eventually repeated by the songs "Just Wanna Be Single" and "You." She performed with Kygo on the live broadcast of the Winter X Games in 2016, and Art House issued a deluxe version of Voice Memos in 2017. That year, she also issued the song "Don't Want Your Love," continuing to release stand-alone tracks over the next couple of years, including 2019's "Distracted." ~ Marcy Donelson
