A mainstay of the venerable Chicago blues scene from the 1980s until his premature death in 2009, singer-songwriter-guitarist Chico Banks amassed an international following for his innovative take on his hometown’s signature music. With a spry sound incorporating soul, jazz, rock, and funk, decadent guitar flourishes, and many dark yet groovy corners, he helped build a movement of young lions in the Windy City blues world. His lone release, 1997’s CANDY LICKIN’ MAN, remains an underground classic.
