Chicago-based duo Chrissy & Hawley create catchy neon electro-pop that recalls '80s dance genres such as Italo-disco, Hi-NRG, and freestyle. The duo consists of producer Christopher Shively and vocalist Hawley Shoffner, who both originated from Kansas and had been friends for years before deciding to collaborate in 2016. Shoffner had sung with various indie rock bands and released a solo single in 2015, while Shively had been a well-regarded DJ and producer as Murderbot, Chrissy Murderbot, and finally just Chrissy, with styles ranging from ragga-jungle to juke/footwork to disco/house. The duo's debut EP, The Photobooth, appeared on North Side '82, the label affiliated with Chicago's Smart Bar (where Shively is a resident DJ), and it immediately made waves among neo-disco fans and DJs. The duo's self-titled debut full-length appeared shortly after on The Nite Owl Diner. ~ Paul Simpson
