Singer and producer Indila makes sophisticated, cinematic pop music. Born Adila Sedraïa in Paris in 1984, Indila began her music career in the late 2000s through collaborations with rappers. After striking up a relationship with French producer Skalpovich, she started singing hooks for artists like Rohff and Soprano, with whom she nabbed her first charting track (2011’s intense “Hiro”). In 2013, her breakout solo single, the seductive “Dernière danse,” made it to the top of multiple charts and paved the way for her debut album, Mini World (2014), to reach Diamond status in France. Mini World’s intricate orchestral arrangements are buoyed by the sounds of Indila’s Indian and North African heritage; she nods to Bollywood (“Tourner dans le vide”) and employs a vocal style reminiscent of Algerian singer Warda for songs like the dramatic “Love Story.” In 2019, she revealed a taste for glitzy dance pop in the vein of Kylie Minogue, too, with the frenzied “Parle à ta tête.”
