Noise-rock band Lower Slaughter formed in Brighton in the late 2010s as part of the U.K.'s underground scene. Originally the four-piece included vocalist Max Levy (King of Cats), but after a year he left to pursue other musical ventures and was replaced by ex-Divorce member Sinead Young. Lower Slaughter began to tour the U.K., finding themselves on the same bill as Hey Colossus, Joanna Gruesome, and Gnod. In 2016, the group met heavy-psych band PigsX7 vocalist Matt Baty, who also ran Newcastle's Box Records. The band kept in touch with Baty, and their debut record would later come out on his label. In 2016, indie label Cupboard Music put out the Hands EP, featuring Levy. By late 2017, Lower Slaughter were ready to release their debut long-player.
