Gods in the pantheon of house music, Masters At Work have been producing and remixing legendary nightclub anthems since 1990, with classic tracks like “I Can't Get No Sleep” and “The Ha Dance'' directly influencing Latin house and LGBT Ballroom. Masters At Work is the collaborative moniker of producers Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez and Louie Vega, who met during a string of block parties in the Bronx in the late ‘80s. Prior to teaming up, Vega cut his teeth DJing at popular nightclubs Studio 54 and Roseland, while Gonzalez established the Masters At Work brand by throwing his own events. Both producers are of Puerto Rican descent and frequently performed for Black and Latino crowds, which drove their sound toward salsa keys and organic drums, as well as recurring collaborations with Boricua vocalist India on tracks such as “When You Touch Me” and “Backfired.” In 1993, they launched the Nuyorican Soul project along with a self-titled album weaving soul, disco, and Latin jazz alongside musicians and vocalists like Tito Puente and Jocelyn Brown. While Masters At Work remains their most beloved enterprise, Vega and Gonzalez have operated under many different names including Kenlou, Sole Fusion, and Hardrive. They've remixed Janet Jackson, Jamiroquai, and Spice Girls, and even revisited their early work on 2022's The Ha Drop - EP.
