Mechanical Canine put an impulsive spin on a meld of melodic pop-punk and Rust Belt emo with hints of vintage college rock, indie pop, and retro-rock. Led by the bright-voiced James Walsh, the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania outfit emerged at the tail end of the 2010s and released their debut album, Good Photography, in 2020. Their 2022 sophomore LP, Walls Covered in Mildew, sharpened hooks and personal narratives of the everyday. Problems associated with moving into a fixer-upper continued to inform (literally and figuratively) 2024's more immediate-sounding To My Chagrin.
