A solo artist, producer, and composer who has succeeded in both the secular and CCM arenas, Michael Omartian surfaced in the early '70s as a session keyboardist, playing with Steely Dan, the Four Tops, and Loggins & Messina. His solo debut came in 1974 with the Myrrh label classic White Horse. Two years later, Omartian topped the pop charts with his studio project Rhythm Heritage ("Theme from S.W.A.T."), and graduated to the top ranks of producers through his work with singer/songwriter Christopher Cross, collaborating on smash hits such as the Grammy-winning "Sailing," "Ride Like the Wind," and "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)." He continued producing pop sessions in the years to follow, but increasingly focused on CCM projects (Gary Chapman, Kathy Troccoli, 4 Him). Omartian recorded five of his own albums between 1977 and 1991, some with his wife, Stormie.
