Composer/producer QARAN—aka Qaran Mehta—owes his broad outlook to growing up in different countries, including Indonesia and Singapore. A composer, singer, and producer who holds a Master’s degree in audio production from the University of Westminster in London, he wrote his debut single “Tareefan” for the soundtrack to the 2018 Hindi-language film Veere di Wedding. Blending sounds from Punjabi pop to rap and R&B with hints of Afrobeat and reggaetón, QARAN followed up with the likes of 2019’s “Kishmish”—featuring Momina Mustehsan and Ash King, and composed for his sister’s wedding—as well as “Ki Khena,” an international collab with renowned house producer R3HAB that same year. His dance-oriented smash, 2019’s “Haaye Oye,” surrounds Ash King’s romantic vocals with sinuous EDM beats, while the sparse acoustic version features a touching performance by Jonita Gandhi. With a succession of singles—including 2021’s “Hope You Don’t Mind,” 2023’s “Desi Wine,” and 2025’s “Parchaiyan”—the multi-hyphenate artist shows off his ability to sprinkle Indian pop with style-hopping melodies, velvet-smooth vocals, and confident rapping skills.
