• Born in Stuttgart, Germany, James lived in various locations—from Hawaii to Oklahoma—due to his father being in the military.
• James draws inspiration from artists like David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Hathaway, and Jodeci. Also, Prince, whom his aunt Rosie Gaines sang with in the ’90s as a member of the New Power Generation.
