Seth Troxler has been pushing dance music forward since before he was old enough to drive. Born in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1985, Troxler absorbed the sounds of house and hip-hop from hanging around the home studio where his stepfather recorded radio shows, and after moving to Detroit as a young teen, he began throwing parties and working in record stores. By 2011, when he cofounded the Visionquest label, he was already well known for a hedonistic blend of minimal techno and deep house that integrated influences from both Detroit and Berlin. Over the years, he has translated his signature style of late-night floor-fillers to recordings for Crosstown Rebels, Wolf + Lamb, and Hypercolour, along with his own imprints Play It Say It, Soft Touch, and Tuskegee, which he runs alongside The Martinez Brothers. But for the full Seth Troxler experience, the best option is to dial up one of his DJ sets, whether a studio mix like 2015’s punchy DJ-Kicks or a live recording of his 2022 back-to-back gig with Carl Craig, Carl Craig b2b Seth Troxler at ARC Festival, 2022 (DJ Mix)—a cross-generational demonstration of Detroit’s timeless spirit.
