Brooklyn experimental art-pop duo Sex Week dress up deceptively simple pop-structured songs with avant-garde performance, arrangement, and production techniques. Richard Orofino met Pearl Amanda Dickson in 2022 after he became obsessed with a playlist she made for his housemate. Having each discovered in the other a kindred spirit, they began making music together which blended folk, experimental, and alternative rock but was influenced as much by the body-horror visuals of filmmaker David Cronenberg as by any particular music. Dickson was an actress who had appeared in Hollywood films and TV series but had little musical experience, and Orofino let himself be guided by her tabula rasa approach in order to rethink and "unlearn" his entrenched habits. Their eponymous debut EP appeared in 2024 on Grand Jury Music; their second EP, Upper Mezzanine, followed in 2025 and had a bolder, more avant-garde, psychedelic sound.
