Legendary R&B producer/arranger/bandleader Willie Mitchell made a number of instrumental soul records under his own name, but he'll always be best known as the man who helped flesh out the classic late-1960s-to-mid-'70s albums that made Al Green a superstar. As the head of Hi Records, Mitchell was the mastermind of Memphis soul, overseeing recordings by Green, Ann Peebles, Syl Johnson, and other greats.
