Known as violinist in the eclectic chamber folk-jazz project Tin Hat and as half of experimental duo Rabbit Rabbit, Carla Kihlstedt has also collaborated with a variety of avant-garde and jazz musicians, and played on albums by songwriters such as Tom Waits and Tracy Chapman. Originally called Tin Hat Trio, Tin Hat made their recording debut in the late '90s, and they had released around a half-dozen studio albums by the time Kihlstedt launched Rabbit Rabbit with spouse Matthias Bossi in 2012. The duo continued to release music on a subscription model into the next decade. Meanwhile, Kihlstedt teamed up with poet/playwright Rafael Osés for 2021's Necessary Monsters and with Present Music for 2025's 26 Little Deaths, a pair of dramatic chamber works indulging the fantastical and macabre.
