Influenced by his father Eddie Levert—lead singer of The O'Jays—Gerald Levert started his career in the mid '80s with LeVert, a band with his brother Sean and high-school friend Marc Gordon. After seven albums, Gerald broke out on his own in the '90s and went on to have a massively successful solo and production career. He continued to hold his father near and dear to his heart, recording their No. 1 hit duet "Baby Hold On to Me" off his debut album Private Line. His life—and consequently his career—was sadly cut short due to his death in '06, but his influence lives on.
