“All of the songs on this playlist helped inspire our record, but it’s really cool to look back now and see how that influence actually played out. For example, Sam was inspired by LCD Soundsystem’s ‘All My Friends’ when he was in the initial stages of writing ‘Young Enough,’ and it’s been cool that certain writers and listeners have been able to hear that and pick up on it without us mentioning it. On the other hand, it might be harder to hear how listening to Loudon Wainwright or Bruce Springsteen or Kate Bush affected our record, but they were just as inspirational, whether lyrically or in their ability to totally break your heart.”
