Sir Richard Bishop formed Sun City Girls with his brother Alan and their friend Charles Gocher in 1979. Their sound mixes rock, jazz, noise, improv, and a Risk board's worth of international elements into a radical, mystic worldview. "The Shining Path," from their 1990 masterpiece Torch of the Mystics, reimagines the Bolivian folk song "Llorando Se Fue," while "Apna Desh" is grungy Bollywood garage rock. On his own, Sir Richard is a sublime acoustic guitarist, as demonstrated by "Burning Caravan"; his brother, as Alvarius B., favors a rougher guitar sound on the samba "The Dinner Party."
