Madeline Merlo has offered the first taste of her new EP ONE HOUSE DOWN (from the girl next door), out October 11, in the form of “Broken Heart Thing,” a duet with country star Dustin Lynch. A classic breakup duet, “Broken Heart Thing” is, as Merlo tells Apple Music, a fitting introduction to the EP, which she says “takes the listener through a journey of self-discovery, evolution, finding yourself, and ultimately [falling] back in love, but with the right person this time.” Lynch’s smooth drawl plays nicely off Merlo’s soulful twang, with the latter saying she chose Lynch because “he has one of [her] favorite voices in Nashville.” “I had worked on some of his music as a background singer, so there was already a relationship there,” she explains. “I decided to send him a text asking, and he said ‘Yes!’ right away and I couldn’t have been more excited.
