Shade

I caught a train

Just to watch suburbia begin to fade

As the night begins to swallow up the day

A cupboard mouse the house that built me

Also wilts me like tall flowers in the shade

I saw your name

On a billboard for the fortunate to claim

On a sign to sweat the evil from my veins

Bygones should be long gone

But the thought of us still covers me in shade

And in this life you've shown me

I've never known me

I've given all of that away

And in the time's I hold you

I should have shown you

How much of me needed to stay

I'm wide awake

I hear my gecko catching crickets in its cage

I hear my neighbors arguing about their day

And though a part of me is lost

I know to them I'm worth the cost of saving face

I hear your name

From a friend who left with nothing else to say

I'm a guest until I clean the mess I made
