Travels
Album - Jazz, Music, Worldwide
On the group’s second album, violinist Jason Anick continues to play Stéphane Grappelli to guitarist Olli Soikkeli’s Django Reinhardt. But the talented acoustic quartet has moved away from reinterpreting the jazz canon with gypsy flair, placing a heavier emphasis on group originals, such as breathless jazz/bluegrass workout “Bushwick Stomp” or sprightly yet spiky “Vessela.” They still flex their interpretive muscle, albeit with a twist—just check out their jagged take on The Beatles’ classic “Come Together,” in which Anick’s sawing fiddle complements Soikkeli’s nimble fingers.
