Classic and contemporary sounds meet on the soundtrack to Kaappaan—a thriller cooked up by composer Harris Jayaraj, actor Suriya and director K. V. Anand. Lending a traditional air are the percussive folk of “Siriki” and an ode to community, “Vinnil Vinmeen”—the latter sung by Harris’ daughter Nikitha, who is accompanied by a children’s choir and Indian classical instrumentation. Meanwhile, the reggaeton-tinged “Hey Amigo”, the hip electro-pop of “Kurilae Kurilae” and the trap R&B of “Machan Inga Vandhira” offer a more modern punch.
