Laura Jane Grace
Adventure Club
एल्बम · Punk · 2025
We’ve come to expect nothing less than pure punk passion from a Laura Jane Grace record, but on her fourth solo album, the Against Me! vocalist’s teeth-grinding intensity more closely resembles a shit-eating grin. Adventure Club was written during an artist-residency getaway in Greece and, in a sense, Grace is taking a vacation here from the job of raging against the evils of the world. With her wife Paris Campbell Grace bringing a B-52’s energy through her punk-cheerleader chants, Grace spends much of the record celebrating life’s more underrated pleasures, whether it’s showing up to Pride in leather (“Wearing Black”), savoring the “liquid heaven” of Grecian coffee (“Espresso Freddie”), or doing a drive-by hit on JK Rowling by titling a song “Fuck You Harry Pottter,” even though the lyrics actually have nothing to do with her.
That’s not to say Grace has completely checked out of the socio-political conversation, she’s just delivering her critiques with tongue firmly in cheek: Grace is no stranger to baiting religious fundamentalists, but in the case of the insidiously catchy “Your God (God’s Dick),” the blasphemy has never sounded so blissful.
