Airbird (Joel Ford) and Napolian (Ian Evans) both released solo material on Daniel Lopatin's Software label during the early 2010s. Airbird released two 12"s of hazy, neon dance-pop, and Napolian released an EP of fractured, blown-out synth funk. The two artists found much common ground between their styles, and began collaborating in 2013. Their first single was "In the Zone," a relaxed, sunny chillwave cut featuring Brooklyn-based vocalist Erika Spring, along with a nostalgic filtered house track called "Special." Two years later, Cascine released the duo's debut album, Mr. Foolish, containing both of these songs as well as several other propulsive, rough-cut dance tracks. ~ Paul Simpson
