Drawing influence from artists like Prince, D’Angelo, and Stevie Wonder, soul-pop singer-songwriter Christian Paul makes modern-sounding music with a classic feel. • Paul taught himself piano and guitar and started singing at age 12. He was 19 when he debuted in 2019 with a trio of singles, “When Love Don’t Love You Back,” “Strong,” and “Rewind.” • His collaborators so far have included Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken—the producers and songwriters who helped launch Rihanna’s career—and Jamie Hartman, former lead singer of the English pop group Ben’s Brother. • In 2020, Paul released a self-titled debut EP featuring six songs.
