In 2008, Japanese indie pop/rock group Galileo Galilei won the grand prize at Senko Riot, a competition and festival featuring teenage bands from around the country.
∙ “Kanseitou,” the first song the group ever wrote and the lead track on their 2009 EP, Ame Nochi Galileo, inspired a 2011 film of the same name.
∙ Their first two major-label albums, 2011’s Parade and 2012’s Portal, were Japanese Top 10 hits and spawned the Gold singles “Natsuzora” and “Aoi Shiori.”
∙ The band contributed music to several anime TV series, including themes for Anohana and Haikyuu!.
∙ American indie-pop outfit POP ETC coproduced their 2013 album, Alarms.
∙ Following their breakup in 2016, singer Yuuki Ozaki released a solo LP under the name warbear, and then reunited with his Galileo Galilei bandmates in a new group called Bird Bear Hare and Fish.
