Kofi Flexxx is a musical fusion project created and led by masked multi-instrumentalist and composer Shabaka Hutchings (Shabaka and the Ancestors, the Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet). In addition to Hutchings, the core quintet comprises drummer Jas Kayser, bassist Daisy George, pianist Alex Hawkins, and flutist Ross Harris. They offer a heady meld of modern jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, and neo-soul. Their collaborators include a host of singers, rappers, poets, and others. Live, Hutchings tends to conduct a fluid cast of reed, woodwind, and brass soloists, rather than perform himself. Kofi Flexxx made their debut recording, the In the Moment, Part 3 EP, in collaboration with American sound designer and composer Carlos Nino. The ensemble's first album, Flowers in the Dark, was issued by Hutchings' Native Rebel Recordings label in September 2023.
