A remarkably gifted vocalist who would mature into a strong and evocative songwriter, Linda Thompson is best known for her work with her former husband Richard Thompson, though she has also enjoyed a sporadic but satisfying career as a solo artist. After she wed Richard in 1972, they recorded a handful of collaborative albums widely acknowledged as classics for their superb songwriting, Richard's peerless guitar work, and Linda's powerful, emotionally honest vocals. After their breakup, Linda launched a solo career with the 1985 album One Clear Moment, but a recurring case of hysterical dysphonia kept her on the sidelines until she recovered enough to release Fashionably Late in 2002, the first of several albums that found her collaborating with family and friends, including 2014's Family (recorded with the ad hoc group Thompson) and 2024's Proxy Music (with a hand-picked roster of artists singing her songs).
