In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest musical memory has to be singing with my family and singing in church. The voice was my family's go to for music expression and I wouldn't trade that for the world.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Kenny Garrett, Songbook Kenny Wheeler, Music for Large and Small Ensembles Miho Hazama, Dancer in Nowhere I don't like ranking things. But I love these and many other albums.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Smash! (feat. JD Chaisson, Clint Bleil & Dustin May)” This is the first tune we recorded for this album. Literally the first read! Crazy! Once we read it down, we all stopped and stared at each other like, "Did that just happen?" It really was a sign that I was going to enjoy my path as a bandleader.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I think every time I get to talk to someone who've listened to my music and then talks to me about what they imagined or experienced. It's always cool to think that my music can take on new lives inside the interpretations of others.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'd love to travel abroad more as a composer/saxophonist. At the time writing this, I've only been abroad once for music purposes. I want to see the world through music.
