Trivium is an American heavy metal band known for their mix of thrash, progressive, and metalcore styles, as well for frontman Matt Heafy’s cinematic lyrics.
∙ Influenced by Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Machine Head, the original Trivium lineup formed in 1999, while Heafy was in eighth grade and the other members were still in high school.
∙ Ember to Inferno, their 2003 debut, was originally released on a small German label, but it generated enough buzz to earn the band a contract with Roadrunner Records.
∙ Their 2005 LP, Ascendency, sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide and was named Album of the Year by Kerrang! magazine.
∙ Released in 2006, The Crusade was the band’s first of 6 straight albums to reach the Top 25 of the Billboard 200 and was a No. 7 hit in the UK.
∙ “Betrayer,” a standout track from 2017’s The Sin and the Sentence, received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
∙ Metal Hammer magazine ranked Ascendancy at No. 11 on its list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the 21st Century.
