Marcus Miller: The Session Musicians
Playlist - 14 Songs
Multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller played a key role in connecting the dots between jazz, pop, and R&B in the '80s. His dancing slap bass helped steer Luther Vandross' early forays into stylish, post-disco soul (“Never Too Much”) as well as Grover Washington, Jr.'s funk-kissed jazz instrumentals (“Winelight”). He also wrote and arranged the coolly atmospheric “Tutu,” wrapping Miles Davis' muted horn in New Wave synths and programmed drums.
