Lee Hi's mature, rich voice made her a standout on the first season of Korean competition show K-pop Star, where she covered songs by Yoonmirae, Duffy, and Rihanna. Since her first single, the slow-burning “1, 2, 3, 4,” she has only continued to develop. Her love of old school soul and R&B pushes many of her songs in a retro direction, but when she does go contemporary (as on “Rose”), it's with a heavy emphasis on acoustic instrumentation instead of electronic beats.
