Initially conceived as a gospel group, Sisters With Voices—better known as SWV—found massive success as an R&B trio after the release of their triple-platinum-selling '92 debut It's About Time. Their harmonious voices and feisty attitudes spawned a multitude of hit singles and landed them on the soundtracks for Above the Rim and Waiting to Exhale. On their third LP Release Some Tension, they collaborated with Missy Elliott, Redman, and other hip-hop stars. After disbanding in '98, they staged a comeback in 2012 and continue recording and performing.
