Make It a Classic

When we are young there's so much to learn

We keep trying to see

The value of the people that we strive to be!

I was told when we grow old

   We become classic as time unfolds.

Like Van Gogh, Edgar Allan Poe,

    Venus de Milo and Shakespeare,

They all are classics.

Things we know may come and go.

   Some might last as the centuries flow.

Ellington, Hildegaard, Bach or Monk

   I'm in the mood for music, make it a classic.

 For when you and I are dancing

         Captive of love's bond,

 Feeling yearnings the sages dreamed of

  Their knowledge bold

                Ages foretold

Something good will always be

   Recreated for eternity.

Take Pavlova, Isadora, Balanchine

    The art of life and living gave us the classics.
