Vaughn Oliver and Oliver Goldstein make deliciously retro electro-funk that’s loaded with vocoder vocals, glitzy Italo-disco synths, and sharp digital drums that slice rather than roll. Their action-packed debut album dishes out windows-down speaker-rattlers (“Heart Attack feat. De La Soul”) and club-pop candy (“Electrify feat. Scott Mellis”) that feel written for the Studio 54 of the future. On “Chemicals,” MNDR’s Amanda Lucille Warner coos over cutting mechanical drums in a seductive style delightfully reminiscent of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love.” It’s so good, it’s so good, it’s so good.
