On their third album, Capetonian duo Lo-Ghost craft defiantly uplifting alternative-pop melodies anchored in Evan Strauss’ gut-punching production and Shannon Devy’s rich, bold timbre. It’s an immensely personal record that was written deep in the throes of the pandemic but recorded in just one week. Certain songs feature field recordings gathered from significant moments during their career, providing an immersion into the duo’s collective history. But it’s the intimate subject matter—themes of a deep love lost (“Backseat”), a heart that feels as though it will never heal (“Matter of Time”), and the idea of finding solace and redemption (“Dead on My Feet”)—that renders this album a powerful ode to endurance.
