The ironically named Something Corporate was in fact a fiercely independent-minded band who mixed pop, punk, and emo, and distinguished themselves from their contemporaries through frontman Andrew McMahon's prominent piano work. They hit the ground running with their first album for the Drive-Thru label in 2002, which earned them a sizable audience and widespread acclaim. After their 2003 album, NORTH, McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia; he rallied after a successful stem-cell transplant, but he never returned to the band.
