Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My father used to play a Dizzy Gillespie record that I loved, his tune Manteca is a catchy perfect blend of Latin and jazz. Later I went to a Big Band concert at the nearby University and they started playing Manteca, I was hooked!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on AppleĀ Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Charles Mingus, The Essential Charles Mingus: The Columbia Years Dizzy Gillespie, The Essential Dizzy Gillespie (Remastered) Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Presenting Thad Jones-Mel Lewis & the Jazz Orchestra I could pick Duke and Frank Foster recording too of course but what is important is they swing. Thad Jones took all that and advanced the idiom with multiple lines converging and mastered energy. Mingus knew how to keep the music street-level.
