In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Watching the Atlanta Symphony play The Nutcracker live with the Atlanta Ballet—my parents were dancers. I remember being amazed that so many moving parts could feel so unified, like music and motion breathing together.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Coldplay, Parachutes Steely Dan, Aja Remastered Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense (Live) [Special New Edition] Parachutes: carried this album everywhere as a kid with my CD player. It’s burned into my memory in the best way. Aja: Flawless grooves, strange-smart lyrics; feel-good escape. Stop Making Sense – brilliant. “Take Me to the River” gives me chills.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Premiering my first piece, The Four Elements, at 13 years old. I was too nervous to rehearse it in front of anyone—but after the final chord, the crowd at Hollywood United Methodist Church stood up and cheered. I’ll never forget that feeling.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I’ve lived in Los Angeles nearly my whole life, so writing for the LA Phil—whose sound I love—would be a dream come true. I’d also love to write a full-scale opera one day, something sweeping and theatrical that brings all my musical worlds together.
