Singer/songwriter Mpura Pudi is a vibrant presence amid South Africa's thriving amapiano house scene. Part of a steadily revolving posse of Alexandra Township-based producers and collaborators (including Mr JazziQ, Felo Le Tee, and JazziDisciples), Mpura broke out in 2020 on his best friend Busta 929's "Umesebenzi Wethu," where he added verses in his distinctive low-key voice to the kicking track's squiggling keyboards, airy drums, and percussive bassline. The following year, he solidified his appeal, adding an ampiano spin to the hit single “Squander” from Nigerian Afrobeat artists Falz and Niniola.
