Religious pop sensation Opick began his career in the late 1990s whipping up plucky, vigorous rock, before taking a sharp turn towards pious music with the hit 2005 album Istighfar. With his charming, rock-hewn voice, the prolific Jember-born former street singer meshes motifs and rhythms influenced by traditional Arabic music with pop and Javanese musical elements to express his strong devotion to Islam. From the tame drums of the traditional Javanese Muslim song cover “Tombo Ati” to the passionate guitar solo on “Rapuh”, Opick spares no emotion in his quest to serve the Almighty.
