The Presidents of the United States of America was a post-grunge power-pop trio whose punky sound and oddball humor brought them success in the mid-â90s.
â Formed in 1990 by childhood friends Chris Ballew and Dave Dederer, the Seattle band became locally popular on the strength of their live shows and an early demo tape.
â The bandâs self-titled 1995 debut albumâfeaturing the chart-topping Modern Rock single âLumpââreached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and went triple-Platinum.
â The hit single âPeachesâ received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal in 1996.
â Their cover of Ian Hunterâs âCleveland Rocksâ was used as the opening song for The Drew Carey Show from 1997 to 2004.
â As Caspar Babypants, Ballew has released albums for kids since 2002âand his 18th LP, Flying High!, received a 2019 Grammy nomination for Best Childrenâs Music Album.
