Though he started out spinning banging house music in the late '90s, DJ and producer Hiroshi Watanabe is now best known for the sweeping and emotive trance he makes under his Kaito alias. Crafting tracks that are floor-filling and heart-tugging all at once, Watanabe layers his surging rhythms with glittering melodies, and even when he strips the beats away his tracks still feel like club-ready anthems rather than ambient soundscapes. Often working with innovative labels like Kompakt, Kaito's ecstatic but intricate style helped reintroduce highbrow techno fans to the sound of trance.
