Olaf Dettinger is one of the more mysterious producers associated with German label Kompakt, but also one of the most affecting, with his powerful combination of otherworldly synth textures and slow-motion beats. He debuted in '98 with the Blond EP, which was followed a year later by the crackling, sprawling Intershop, the first Kompakt album devoted to a single artist. Since his full-length sophomore, Oasis, in '00, Dettinger has released only a handful of compilation tracks and remixes, but his work has left an indelible mark on the ever-evolving world of IDM.
