“When I finally get some downtime at home, one of my favorite pastimes is listening to my collection of classic jazz and funk records,” Parisian beatmaker Onra tells Apple Music, introducing his takeover of our playlist of vintage grooves. “I’ve compiled a list of tracks that have been on heavy rotation for years, and I’m excited to share them. Below is a selection of some of my favorite songs from both legendary and lesser-known artists that kept me inspired over the years.” If you hear something you like, add it to your library. Peter Brown, “Without Love” “This is the first song that immediately came to mind while putting together this playlist, thanks to the chords on the Fender Rhodes. The various synth patches and vocals blend together so perfectly, creating something truly exceptional. The more you listen, the more you’ll notice subtle details you might have missed initially. It also carries a positive message and, to me, is simply one of the most beautiful songs ever created.” 24-Carat Black, “You’re Slipping Away” “This song is from one of my favorite recent discoveries over the past few years, and the entire album is incredible. I really appreciate how the various instruments blend together seamlessly, supported by a simple rhythm section. Each instrument has plenty of space, and the minimalistic vocals contribute to a hypnotic and lush overall sound. I currently don’t have access to my record collection, and this is one of the albums I miss the most.” Hiroshi Sato, “You're My Baby (Off Vocal)” “I wanted to include at least one Japanese artist on that list, and while exploring Apple Music, I discovered this fantastic instrumental version of Hiroshi Sato’s highly sought-after album Awakening that I hadn’t heard before. It’s just as incredible as the vocal version! Even though it was released a bit later than the other songs in the playlist, it aligns perfectly with my idea of ‘chill.’”
