Brussels-based singer-songwriter Douzi is reinventing the Moroccan pop and raï sounds he grew up with. His music is as modern and celebratory as it is earthy and soul-stirring. Several remixes point at a predilection for the dance floor, where fervent Arabic choruses merge with adrenaline-boosting Maghrebi and electro beats. They stand in stark contrast to “Loukan Ja Galbak”, a midtempo raï ballad interwoven with rotating percussion and meandering synths. And Douzi’s simmering vocals truly shine in “Lmouja”, a piano lament suffused with glacial electronics.
