Danish duo Søndag Søndag is a collaboration between film composer and pianist Jesper Mechlenburg and violinist Katrine Grarup Elbo. Their self-titled debut album is a magical contemplation of the different moods evoked by Sunday—a day that many of us face with uncertainty and even anxiety—each track a beautifully crafted anthem named after days of the week. “Fredag” (Friday), for example, kindles a warm glow of sumptuous piano and a gentle heartbeat of pulsating digital effects, while “Lørdag” (Saturday) evokes the calmness of a day away from life’s grind. The melancholy of “Søndag pm” (Sunday pm) and “Mandag” (Monday), with its keening, sobbing violin, pull us back to our realities.
