Tornaluna

Its been four years since Mexican singer-songwriter Vanessa Zamora released Hasta la Fantasia, a gorgeous introductory collection of hushed, acoustic indie-pop ballads. Tornaluna abandons the largely organic sound of that debut, coating this new set of songs with a gloss of ’80s-style keyboards. It’s a surprising change for an artist who’d previously leaned closer to intimate folk, dipping into synth-rock (“Rio”), disco (“Hbls Mucho”), electro-pop (“Éspiri”), and R&B (“Solegrande”) along the way. But even with this radical overhaul, Zamora still conjures the same alternately dreamy and melancholy vibe that made her earlier songs so entrancing.
