As the title suggests, this album from genre chameleon Niko Moon digs into the artist/producer’s origin story, making for a vulnerable follow-up to 2025’s breezy and beachy AMERICAN PALM. Moon—who works at the intersection points of country, pop, R&B, and hip–hop—digs into his upbringing in Tyler, Texas, and later Douglasville, Georgia, sharing some of the more difficult details of his often impoverished childhood, like on “AMERICAN DREAMIN’,” on which he recalls “layin’ in that trailer, starin’ holes in the ceiling.” “GEORGIA (ROOTS),” with its prominent hip-hop influence, should appeal to fans of “Fancy Like”-era Walker Hayes, though Moon’s soulful vocal also nudges the song into Teddy Swims territory; it also interpolates Ray Charles’ classic “Georgia on My Mind,” connecting Moon back to his own Peach State experiences. Other highlights include the Sam Hunt-esque “RICH MAN,” which reframes wealth as an abundance of love and connection, and “SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW, SOME WAY,” a laid-back and melodic reminder to hang on to hope.
