Rockstar Joy

Album · Singer/Songwriter · 2026 · Wax Records
Chantal Kreviazuk has spent much of 2026 looking back, be it through the self-covers collection In My Own Voice (featuring her own renditions of songs she wrote for the likes of Drake, Gwen Stefani, and Kelly Clarkson) or the marriage memoir I’m Going to Break Your Heart: A Rock ’n’ Roll Love Story, co-written with her husband Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace. But on her second album of the year, she’s looking inward.

Don’t be fooled by the name—Rockstar Joy doesn’t portend this veteran singer-songwriter suddenly pivoting to loud, fist-pumping guitar anthems. Rather, its opening title track is a moving meditation on having to share your famous husband with thousands of adoring fans around the globe, and holding down the fort back home while he’s off living the dream.

That song serves as the gateway into a deeply introspective album where Kreviazuk isn’t so much singing songs as accessing deep-seated memories, chronicling the highs (the meet-cute origin story “Better Than You”) and lows (the trembling ballad “Never Again”) in a soft-focus swirl.

And now that Kreviazuk has firmly established herself as an in-demand writer for pop’s A-list, she’s embracing the freedom to become more adventurous on her own albums, be it with the free-floating whimsy of “Wasting My Time” or the last-call cabaret vibes and vocal ascensions of “Happy for You.”

Our Favorite Track: “Meant What You Said”—a lilting chamber-pop exercise whose mantra-like harmonies give way to a single lyric, sung just once (“You were high on the phone/But you meant what you said”), that showcases Kreviazuk’s ability to distill an epic domestic drama down to one cutting line.
